99:1
When the earth is shaken to her (utmost) convulsion,
To the average human observer, a violent earthquake is a terrifying event, due to its suddenness, its mysterious origin, and its ability to destroy even the strongest buildings while bringing up unusual materials from the depths of the earth. The Overwhelming Event (Surah 88), which heralds the Judgment, will be an even greater and more far-reaching convulsion than any earthquake we have experienced. Nonetheless, the occurrences of earthquakes can offer us a glimpse of that supreme, world-shaking Event.

And the earth throws up her burdens (from within),

And man cries (distressed): ’What is the matter with her?’-

On that Day will she declare her tidings

For that thy Lord will have given her inspiration.

On that Day will men proceed in companies sorted out, to be shown the deeds that they (had done).
99:7
Then shall anyone who has done an atom’s weight of good, see it!
99:8
And anyone who has done an atom’s weight of evil, shall see it.
