If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure. That is because they are men without knowledge.
Ali explains that even among those who oppose Islam and engage in hostilities against the Muslim community, there may be individuals who seek protection. In such cases, they are to be granted full asylum and given the opportunity to hear the message of the Qur’an. If they accept the message, they become part of the Muslim community and are treated as fellow believers. However, if they choose not to accept Islam, they should still be granted protection and safely escorted to a secure place. Ali notes that such individuals may require protection both from Muslim forces engaged in conflict with their people and from their own community after distancing themselves from it. This instruction reflects the principle that some individuals may oppose Islam out of ignorance rather than deliberate hostility, and therefore they should be treated with fairness and compassion (Ali, 1989).
