The Unbelievers are protectors, one of another: Unless ye do this, (protect each other), there would be tumult and oppression on earth, and great mischief.

8:74

Those who believe, and adopt exile, and fight for the Faith, in the cause of Allah as well as those who give (them) asylum and aid,- these are (all) in very truth the Believers: for them is the forgiveness of sins and a provision most generous.

According to The Study Quran, this verse is commonly interpreted as elevating the status of the Emigrants (Muhājirūn) and the Helpers (Anṣār) above other groups within the Muslim community. Many scholars maintain that this distinction is unique to those who participated in the early period of Islam. This interpretation is often supported by a prophetic tradition stating, “There is no migration (hijrah) after the victory,” which most commentators understand as referring to the conquest of Makkah, though some interpret it as referring to the Treaty of Ḥudaybiyah, which permitted open travel between Makkah and Madinah during the two years preceding the conquest. Some exegetes also note interpretations suggesting that leaving one’s homeland to struggle in the path of God may be regarded as a form of hijrah in a broader sense (Nasr et al., 2015).
