If ye gain the mastery over them in war, disperse, with them, those who follow them, that they may remember.
Ali explains that the purpose of the verse is to encourage Muslims to confront the enemies described in the passage with firmness and determination. Such resolute action, according to this interpretation, is intended to serve as a deterrent to other potential adversaries who might otherwise be inclined to act treacherously toward the Muslim community (Ali, 1989).
