81:8

When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned –

81:9

For what crime she was killed;

In this world of sin and sorrow, much unjust suffering occurs, and innocent lives are sacrificed without any trace by which offenders can be held accountable. A clear example before the Quraysh was female infanticide (see Qur’an 16:58-59, and note 2084). The crime was committed under the guise of social acceptability, in secret collusion, with no questions being raised. However, in the world of Justice, full accountability will be demanded, and the victim—who was silent in this world—will be able to testify, for she herself committed no crime. The evidence will be drawn from the very means used to conceal the act (Ali).
