Whether ye cut down (O ye Muslim!) The tender palm-trees, or ye left them standing on their roots, it
was by leave of Allah, and in order that He might cover with shame the rebellious transgresses.
Islamic legal and ethical principles governing warfare prohibit the unnecessary destruction of agricultural resources, including fruit-bearing trees and cultivated crops, as well as any form of wanton devastation. However, classical Islamic jurisprudence recognizes that limited destruction may be permissible when it serves a clear military objective, such as exerting strategic pressure on an opposing force. Even in such circumstances, restraint is emphasized, and damage should be minimized whenever possible. These guidelines reflect the broader ethical framework of Islamic teachings and were observed by Muslim forces during their military expeditions (Ali, n.d.).
