Do they then seek after a judgment of (the days of) ignorance? But who, for a people whose faith is assured, can give better judgment than Allah?
The term “Days of Ignorance” refers to the period in pre-Islamic Arabia characterized by tribal rivalries, persistent feuds, and a strong emphasis on divisions among people. Commentators explain that this mindset fostered social fragmentation and conflict rooted in narrow loyalties and self-interest. In Islamic teachings, however, the message of Islam seeks to move humanity away from such attitudes and toward a framework based on unity, justice, and shared moral responsibility.
From this perspective, the mission of Islam is to transform social relationships by replacing tribalism and division with a sense of collective human solidarity grounded in faith. When belief is sincere and deeply internalized rather than merely verbal, it encourages individuals to transcend divisions and work toward unity. Within this framework, divine guidance is understood to lead believers toward a more harmonious and unified social order.
