49:15
Only those are Believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and have never sincedoubted,
but have striven with their belongings and their persons in the Cause of Allah: Such are the sincere
ones.
Exegetical discussions indicate that following the rebuke in the preceding verse of those who claimed belief without fully attaining it, this verse highlights the enduring and committed nature of genuine faith. While the earlier passage stresses obedience, this verse places particular emphasis on sincere belief and the depth of devotion it requires. According to classical commentators, true believers demonstrate their faith by striving with their wealth and their lives in the path of God, reflecting a willingness to sacrifice personal resources and effort in pursuit of divine approval.
Such individuals are regarded as sincere in their claim to faith because their belief is expressed through committed action. In contrast, the verse implicitly distinguishes them from groups such as the Banū Asad, who are described in some exegetical accounts as having professed belief outwardly without yet attaining its deeper reality. Within this interpretive framework, the passage underscores that authentic faith combines inner conviction with practical dedication to the guidance of the Qur’an and the teachings conveyed by Muhammad.
