Nor is there aught of the unseen, in heaven or earth, but is (recorded) in a clear record.

Verily this Qur’an doth explain to the Children of Israel most of the matters in which they

disagree.

The matters referred to are those over which the Israelites themselves have long disagreed, often leading to mutual criticism and condemnation among different groups. These disputes include issues related to what some commentators describe as distortions (taḥrīf) in the Torah and the Gospel, as well as disagreements concerning the proper obligations of the Divine Law. Classical commentaries discuss these issues in connection with earlier scriptural interpretations (see Qurʾān 2:75 and 3:50–51). More broadly, some interpreters understand the verse to indicate that the Qurʾān provides definitive and universal clarification on theological questions, particularly those concerning the nature and attributes of God.
