Kaf. Ha. Ya. ’Ain. Sad.
19:2
(This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya.
According to traditional accounts, Zachariah (Zakariyyā) was an elder and a religious leader within his community who maintained unity among his relatives through his strong character and commitment to faith. As he advanced in age, he became concerned about the future generations that would follow him and about the continuation of religious guidance among his people. Because he had no son to succeed him in leadership, he prayed to God for a child who could inherit the knowledge and spiritual legacy passed down through his forefathers, tracing back to Jacob. Islamic tradition also reports that Zachariah worked as a carpenter by profession
