Now when they came into Joseph’s presence, he received his (full) brother to stay with him. He said (to him): “Behold! I am thy (own) brother; so grieve not at aught of their doings.”
According to the narrative, when Joseph’s brothers returned to Egypt, he received them with honor and treated them generously (cf. Genesis 43:29–31). During this visit, Joseph privately informed Benjamin of his true identity and revealed that he was his brother (IK; Kl). In this confidential conversation, Joseph explained the events that had taken place since they had been separated (IK). He also sought to reassure Benjamin, encouraging him not to grieve over the actions of their brothers and reminding him that these events had occurred in the past and ultimately unfolded according to God’s will (Bg).
Joseph further instructed Benjamin to keep this meeting confidential and not to disclose the matter to the other brothers (IK). Some exegetical sources, such as Ibn Kathīr, report that Joseph and Benjamin subsequently agreed upon a plan that would enable Benjamin to remain with Joseph in Egypt, a development described later in the narrative (see Qur’an 12:70–82). However, al-Ṭabarī presents a different interpretation, suggesting that Benjamin may not have been aware of Joseph’s plan in advance.
